Providing Exceptional STEM Learning Support

Cognitrell Mission

I provide STEM learning support with an emphasis on placing the material in a real-world context while developing critical thinking skills. During my time as a submarine officer, scientist at Navy Nuclear Lab, and faculty member in the Naval Academy Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department, I saw how STEM knowledge and critical thinking led directly to military capability and the ability to solve real-world problems. As a retired Navy Officer, my goal is to continue my service by sharing STEM knowledge with the next generation of students in fields essential to the technological well-being of the world. 

After teaching nearly 100 semester-long college-level course sections and tutoring for over 3,000 hours, I've learned that the students who get the most from working with me fall into three distinct groups:

• Middle and high School students who are considering physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or nuclear engineering who want to excel in their math, physics, and chemistry coursework while exploring what those fields are really like.

• Undergraduate engineering students seeking support in the core classes: statics, dynamics,  solid mechanics, fluids, thermodynamics, circuits, etc. While helping these students understand the technical aspects of their course, I also develop the study and learning skills necessary to succeed in an undergraduate engineering program.

• Undergraduate physics majors seeking academic support and enrichment as they progress through their major.
